Xiaomi 13 Pro Overview
Gen 2 Snapdragon 8
While the Xiaomi 13 Pro is not the initial smartphone to incorporate this feature, it does come equipped with Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset. This cutting-edge chip utilizes TSMC's advanced 4nm manufacturing process and introduces a new configuration of cores, specifically 1+4+3. At the forefront of this arrangement are the Kryo Prime cores, which are based on the high-performance Cortex-X3 architecture.
The high-performance cluster of the Xiaomi 13 Pro consists of two Cortex-A715 cores and two Cortex-A170 cores, all operating at a speed of 2.8GHz. Additionally, there are three Cortex-A510 cores dedicated to handling less intensive tasks. In terms of graphics capabilities, the device is equipped with the Adreno 740 GPU, which supports hardware-accelerated ray tracing. This advanced GPU is based on Arm's Immortalis GPU architecture.
In summary, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset offers significant improvements in performance and power efficiency. With a 35% faster CPU and 25% improved GPU performance, it delivers enhanced processing capabilities. Additionally, it achieves a 40% increase in power efficiency for CPU tasks and a 45% increase for GPU tasks. The Xiaomi 13 Pro is complemented by LPDR5X RAM and UFS 4.0 storage, further enhancing its overall performance.
To ensure efficient cooling, Xiaomi has implemented a liquid-cooled vapor chamber with a surface area of 3400 square millimeters in the Xiaomi 13 Pro. This cooling solution helps maintain optimal temperatures even during intense workloads. Moreover, the phone features an intelligent performance adjustment system that dynamically adapts its performance level based on the specific task being performed, ensuring an optimal balance between power consumption and performance.
Xiaomi Surge chips
Supporting the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset in the Xiaomi 13 Pro are a pair of Surge co-processors developed in-house by Xiaomi. The first is the Surge P1 chip, which plays a crucial role in enabling the phone to achieve fast charging speeds of up to 120W via wired connections and 50W through wireless charging. Initially introduced last year, this chip made its debut in the Xiaomi 12 Pro.
The second co-processor is the Surge G2, which serves as a smart battery management chip. When combined, these two chips form the Xiaomi Surge Battery Management System, which was first introduced in the 12S Ultra model. This dual-chip strategy ensures a longer battery life while facilitating safe and efficient charging on the new Xiaomi 13 Pro. Additionally, the flagship device features an increased battery capacity, growing from 4,600mAh to 4,820mAh, providing users with even more power for their daily usage needs.
Camera
The Xiaomi 13 Pro boasts an impressive triple camera setup, featuring Leica's official branding and new "Master" lenses, which were absent in the standard Xiaomi 12 Pro.
At the forefront is the Sony IMX989 camera, equipped with optical image stabilization and octa-PD phase focus. This camera utilizes a 1-inch sensor, which made its debut in the Xiaomi 12S Ultra model. Working alongside the main camera is a 115° ultrawide angle lens that also serves as a macro shooter, allowing for versatile photography options. Lastly, the device includes a telephoto lens with a 75mm equivalent focal length, enabling users to capture detailed shots from a distance.
Leica has even donated its expert color-correcting services. Leica Authentic and Leica Vibrant settings, which provide realistic and generally brighter photographs, respectively, are available to users of the Xiaomi 13 Pro.
Design and Display
The Xiaomi 13 Pro introduces a significant addition that was previously absent from Xiaomi's high-end offerings: IP68 dust and water resistance. While Samsung's flagship phones have featured this capability for years, Xiaomi has now incorporated it into their device. The back of the phone is crafted from ceramic and is available in two elegant options: Ceramic Black and Ceramic White.
The Xiaomi 13 Pro features a 6.73-inch QHD+ LTPO AMOLED display, which remains unchanged compared to its predecessor. The screen offers a variable refresh rate that can range from as low as 1Hz to a smooth 120Hz. With a touch sampling rate of 240Hz, the display ensures excellent responsiveness. It covers the full DCI-P3 color space, delivering vibrant and accurate colors. The peak brightness reaches an impressive 1900 nits, providing excellent visibility even in bright outdoor conditions. To protect the display, Xiaomi has opted for the latest Gorilla Glass Victus, offering enhanced durability and scratch resistance.
